Is this a Rei reference?

Is this a Rei reference?

I never really looked forward to watching LaMB on Animax, since Animax-Asia is good at advertising and fails at the output.

It reminded me of Animax hyped up advertising of Pupil’s so called animated Music video that turned out to be just a bunch of pictures swaying on the screen, with no fixed story whatsoever, and just the band members living out their so called fantasy, in short jerking off in 2D.

WHOA, GiTS reference?

WHOA, is that some animu's reference? GiTS?

Now moving on to LaMB. First things first, the animation is like a Flash animation with just a bit of 3D scenes in it. Their movement sucks, not fluid and the characters make too many steps in a set of walking frames.

if this picture is moving, you can see how walking animations suck

if this picture is moving, you can see how walking animations suck

Second, the voice acting, not that horrible but, I can’t feel anything from the actors voices and their voices miss a lot of the characters lip movements. That’s why I think producers shouldn’t pick celebrities for voice acting. (ugh, Animax-Philippines’ Initial D 4th Stage)

whoa, boobies

whoa, boobies

Third, I really don’t like the transitions in the show. I have no problems with fast story pacing and fast transitions, but LaMB’s transitions is seriously weird. At one point there’s drama, then poof, dream sequence. Then, as the Doctor is building up some romance, now there’s action. WTF?

the doctor fails at being manly

the doctor fails at being manly

I must say it’s not bad for a first production, it even looks like it has more budget than the typical anime episode. But, its not that good either. I pretty much lost interest since the officer made a lame attempt of cracking a joke, or is it even a joke?

Oh well, there’s still a second part anyway. and Simple Plan’s cameo apperance is lame.

And some stuff from Animax:

yeah, right. Ive heard it alot of times already

yeah, right. I've heard it alot of times already

only local squa-squas are looking forward to it

only local squa-squas are looking forward to it

They’re actually talking about Tears to Tiara and Fullmetal Achemist’s remake simulcast at April 6, 1245am. Fullmetal Alchemist fills their bill of ’09’s most anticipated since alot of squa-squas and non-squa-squas alike are raging alot about it in the internets.

Crazy Shrine Maidens

Kannagi: Armpit Anime

I rarely watch new shows during starts of seasons, I was either doing a monthly rewatch or checking what good stuffs I’ve missed on previous ones. I usually let new shows sit for two or three episodes unless I’ve read/played/seen it and liked it. Also, for some reason, this season is a sequel season, a continuation of Fall 07 which was also a CHUNKY season. And here are my thoughts halfway through this CHUNKY season.

Cast of ARIA

Cast of ARIA

With my midterm exams finished, I decided to reward myself with ARIA the ORIGINATION’s last three episodes which is also the end of the ARIA series. As my previous post stated, I was in an inner struggle whether to finish ARIA or not, but heck.. I’d rather see how everyhing turned out rather than just knowing that those three became Primas, and etc, etc, etc.

Now, I am really regretting not watching ARIA during its time. Because shows as good as this must be watched with a week in between. No particular reason at all, it’s just I want to feel the intensity of waiting for another good story the episode has to offer.

It’s been a while since I fanboyed over a particular series, and at least this time, I didn’t fanboyed it over skimpy outfits, hot girls, chichi, oppai, but instead I fanboyed it over the story and the show itself.

During my run of ARIA and all of its Iterations, a lot of things made me love the show. And here are some of them:

For the time I spent whoring the internets and lurking in anime blogs, I never failed to see a good review of Aria The Animation and any of its iterations.

During those times, I chose to ignore Aria concluding that it’s “just another moe anime”… I was wrong.

Considering the story is intended for young schoolgirls, the show has a lot of adult fans as well. I usually see raves of this series mostly in good editorial type anime blogs, though there are also episode reviews in episodic anime blogs. At least it’s not in rabid fanboy blogs that is full of fanboy reviews.

What’s interesting is, even if the show drags in a very slow pace like the calm waters of Aqua, it’s not that boring. There’s always something interesting popping in every corner and in every episode. You get to see and feel how the characters and their relationships develop, and how they enjoy their lives in Aqua.

As the first season got licensed, I got the urge to see what Aria is all about. At first, my feelings and interest for the show was wavering. But as it went on, I grew fonder of the show and felt depressed at the end of the first and second seasons.

Now that the story recently came to a close, I really don’t feel like finishing ARIA the ORIGINATION, because it’s depressing to see good stories end.

After days of worrying about my Class Cards, which I passed all of them. I can finally whore the internet anytime. But before that, I guess I should write a few things on what I was doing in the past few weeks.

As the earlier post said, I was stuck playing all of the Ace Attorney Games, aside from that, there’s a spin-off game featuring Miles Edgeworth that will be released sometime in the future.

School really wasn’t hectic this term, except that I spent more dilly-dallying than studying.

My PC was dead so was using teh slooooow laptop. even though Firefox 3 is not a whore anymore… Lappy is still sloooooow.

And I just finished most of my Spring offerings and and reviewed some series a few seasons back, and here are my thoughts. (really long lol)

After writing those “Action “Shounen Rules, I am writing another part of the “shounen cliche” series: Shounen Romance. (Harem included)

Now, I think about it. Valentines is also coming up. So, this is a great topic for the season.

I really don’t know which series set the bars, but in my manga reading experience.. the oldest one I’ve read is I”s a great manga by Masakazu Katsura, and is the post header image.

Ok, I know this is not complete. I may have forgotten or doesn’t know some things, feel free to comment for corrections and/or additions.

Note: First draft is an emphasis to the characters first. Will add more in the near future.

Edit: Kinda started the plotlines part, and edited some of the grammar mistakes I can find.

This is part one of my “shounen cliche” series. I already have Action Shounen and Shounen Romance, and I’m thinking of writing about Shounen Sports too.

I usually say shounen crap here, shounen crap there, just for the sake of argument, though I read some myself. (yes, I don’t watch) It’s just that I really don’t like those rabid fangirls that squeals here and squeal there saying <insert character here> is uber cool, not knowing why <this character> is cool and not even knowing what “uber” means.

Most of the anime/manga fans grew up with Dragonball or <insert action shounen series here> so, we all have “shounen action fan” blood with us.

But, most of current series are merely DBZ iterations or follows the DBZ formula or basic shounen anime rules. they just change the setting to ninjas, exorcists, basketball players, boxers etc.

I’m really not sure who set up the standards in action shounen, though in every angle it’s pretty much DragonBall.

So it turns out that Naruto is Goku that became a ninja and instead of his hair turning blond, (hey, his hair’s yellow in the first place) he grows tails instead, and BLEACH is just a fashionable DragonBall with swords, youkai instead of alien monkeys and random mexican terms.

Note that older action shounen series deviate from these rules btw. Most of them just follows a common enemy throughout the series, and instead of arcs, it is divided into generations. (sons, grandsons etc.) Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Hokuto no Ken are examples. While others are in one goal per one or two episode format like City Hunter or Detective Conan. But old action shounen series can be classified as seinen this days due to their graphic nature. (Though some still mistake seinen series as shounen like Cowboy Bebop). So, how do we quickly differentiate Shonen and Seinen? Both has fanservice right? and of course boob shots in onsen or bath episodes.. check the boobs, if it has nipples it’s seinen, if there’s none it’s shonen.

Extra note: older series tend to do the one story per 1~3 episode format and does one big arc (4~up episode) as season/series enders.

Here are the rules I compiled, not entirely complete, but I guess most of it catches the basics. I provided examples from modern shounen series so that you can visualize it.

Edit: Cleaned the article because it’s sooooooo effin’ messy.

Another note: I increased my Shounen knowledge during my break and read a lot of popular and uncommon titles as well.

Moar notes: you must hate me for having lotsa notes.. but it looks like my layout is screwed in Firefox and IE. (I use Opera lol) some words are hidden in the background. If a sentence doesn’t make sense, there are usually words hiding on the far right though some are grammatical errors.

Being an epic episode having Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann as its main anime reference, and having GAINAX helping Synergy SP with this episode, there are also plenty of things that are in this episode, especially the title designs around the stadium.

Edit: Haha, looks like I missed one title design. I added it at the end and I added the original logos for reference as well.

I’ve cut the page for it to be Third-World internet friendly. XD (Coz I use one myself)

I’ve just finished reading Genshiken’s last manga volume sometime before news year’s day which I bought on a whim even if I only have scans of the previous volumes.

I was satisfied with its ending in which the characters’ life after Genshiken was already set, seniors getting jobs, Madarame kinda fulfilling his last wish, Ogiue solving her problems while getting hooked with Sasahara and where I finally get to see Saki’s cosplay pics. (uh, well not all, but some) I hope the anime intensifies it further, if they have enough episodes for that. Considering episode 11 is still a part of the manga’s Volume 7… A Movie/OVA finale perhaps?

Genshiken’s second anime season was quite intense having a H Anime Studio ARMS doing it *cough Episode 5 *cough (well, not only 5 but there are also some service shots of Ohno). Studio ARMS is known for Wordsworth, La Blue Girl, Another Lady Innocent, Ikkitousen’s second season nd I think they did Elfen Lied too. And, also the first season’s studio was Palm Studio (Palm, ARMS… get it? lol)

Even though the second season gave a “not for Genshiken Noobs” vibe at the start, suceeding episodes, IMO are understandable at a new watcher’s point of view, except that is if they have no prior knowledge of the Japanese sub-culture. or less understanding (those guys that usually have Action Shounen animu as their tops).

Extra: I stumbled on this while rereading those Genshiken manga scans… and I definitely agree with it. *cough Moe *cough

Lucky Star Re-Mix002 ~Lucky Star no Kiwami, Ahh Shiteyanyo~

Tracklist:

1. JAM ga Mottetta! Sailor Fuku
2. Motteke! Sailor Fuku EX.Motte[k]remix
3. Motteke! Knee Socks
4. Motteke! Sailor Fuku Electro Otome Chikku mix
5. Motteke! Sailor Fuku Bak-Bak-Bakoon! Mix
6. Kumikyoku “Lucky Star Douga”

I remember reading a post about JAM Project doing a Motteke! Sailor Fuku remix and will be released around December. I think it was at Canned Dogs, do check.

I got it a while ago and after playing it, I can’t stop laughing. I was hoping for a hot blooded version (like the theme songs for mecha and toys anime) but I didn’t think it will be this hilarious. XD Extra Note: Somehow, I can still point which voice Kageyama Hinorobu and Endoh Maasaki’s are because of the unique way they emphasize their voices.

Definitely better than ReMix001, though I like Kaeshite! Knee Socks (2nd track in OP Single) than Motteke! Sailor Fuku better. Notable tracks are of course, the first track, JAM Project’s for hilarity and the sixth one, Kumikyoku “Lucky Star Douga”.

I know there’s a story behind Kumikyoku “Lucky Star Douga”, but internet references are written in moon language and I can only read Kana (based on JAP game experiences lol). The song included the character songs, some of Minoru’s Kanzenban tracks, Akira’s Misoji Misaki, and some tracks that I can’t figure out which anime soundtrack it came from OK, the rest are from those Lucky Star BGM and Radio Bangumi Albums (which I don’t have) no wonder they sound so familiar yet I don’t know what they are . Nevertheless, it is the best track in this album.

If you want to know, there is tracklist of the songs included in Kumikyoku “Lucky Star Douga”, there’re still missing tracks but do check.
